- When does life really begin? At conception. Shortly after conception, DNA is already forming in the unborn baby. At eight weeks, you may not even know you’re pregnant, but your baby’s heart is beating steadily and every organ is present. At eight and a half weeks, even your baby’s fingerprints are forming.
